Courtney Shanade Salter, born March 26, 1991, and professionally referred to as Ari Lennox, hails from Washington, D.C. and is the debut female to be signed for J. Cole's Dreamville Records label. Her first single was released with the label on October 21 2016 titled Pho where she began gaining recognition. Shea Butter Baby is her debut album. It came out in May of 2019. Ari Lennox uploaded her music to the internet in 2012 after she released her the Five Finger Discount mixtape and Ariography EP in 2013. The year 2014 saw her continue to upload her music via the web, including her own release single Bound. Sweat It is featured on Omen's Elephant Eyes album, which was released on July 21 2015. J. Cole, who was part of the Dreamville crew back then, wanted to have her perform on Rihanna references.
